But it didn’t happen. He remained in his lonely prison, forgotten by the butler whose dream he had explained. That story is told in Scripture not simply to give us some historical detail, but to reveal a truth about God: He allows us to be in tough situations so that we might grow. There are advantages to difficulties. As we watch Joseph walk through the various situations of his life, we learn that God has a purpose for each one of us, and that in our lives there will sometimes be lonely experiences.
